I am a resident of Mt Pocono, a homeowner, and Chair of the Mt Pocono Zoning Board. Recently, I retired from the W. Paul Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ, having served as an Associate Professor of Management and as Chairman of the Department of Management. I taught management, organizational behavior, business strategy, labor relations and human resource management to undergraduates and MBA students.
In the 80’s and 90’s, I made extended trips to China as a teacher, researcher, and consultant and wrote numerous articles on trade negotiations, joint ventures, and cross-cultural problems related to doing business in China.
In the 90’s Seton Hall was a pioneer integrating computing into the curriculum. I adopted various computer course delivery systems. My research addressed issues of the match of technology to teaching methods and the employment of technology to teach critical thinking. I co-authored an article that summarized what we knew entitled, “Learning and Teaching Management on the Web: What Do We Know?” (2003)
Now our community faces bankruptcies, abandoned homes, high unemployment and an eroding tax base. Despite falling enrollments, school costs are increasing, particularly for pensions and debt service which add nothing to educating our children. Our high level of school taxes is a drag on the community’s ability to attract and nurture families and job producing businesses.
I would bring to the board a lifetime of experience in education and extensive knowledge of management, labor relations and computer-based learning. I will be a tireless steward fostering quality education in hard times. With the other members of the Board, I will lead the teachers and administration in a comprehensive rethinking to find efficiencies and increase productivity that promotes academic excellence and reduces the tax burden on our families.
